It's hard to make a living with falconry but it sure is cool. One of these days I'd like a Finnish goshawk. I wonder if the bird in the vid was a mountain eagle? I hear they are one of the few birds large enough to make falconry pay.

Otherwise small hunting dogs can generally catch or help catch enough food to be worthwhile. Large dogs are great for gaurd duty but smaller dogs are the best for survival.

Any large herbivore that gives useful products like milk and wool are good, too. They don't compete with you for food and you don't have to kill them to derive benefit. My wife and I are looking at getting some Gulf Coast Sheep. Donkeys and horses shouldn't be overlooked either if you have the space. Heck, any heritage breed farm animal really, survival is what they were bred for.

Cool video , Golden Eagle i guess? Saw one once at a zoo. talons bigger than my hands- and intimidating to see a bird with actual shoulders. Bet they could take small children should they want.
As for the video , it would be more fair if the deer could fly , like this one:DOuch!
